Shoe Savers: Saving Soles for Three Generations

In order to gain more insight as to our procedures, let us take you through the steps involved in resoling men's shoes:
Shoe Savers Men's Shoe Repair
Sockliners are removed.
Toplifts are removed.
Heel bases are removed with hand tools so as not to damage the shanks. All old nails are removed at this point.
Out soles are carefully removed from the upper.
Old out sole stitches are completely removed from the insoles or welts. Welts, insoles, and insole ribbing are replaced if necessary. Old welt stitches are removed prior to replacement of welts. When shoes are to be recrafted and put back to factory specifications.we go so far as to smooth out as many wrinkles as possible before proceeding to the next step.
Upper is roughened for proper adhesion.
Filler is replaced where applicable.
New soles of the proper thickness are applied.
Soles are channeled by machine for proper depth and edge adjustment and then restitched. We have the ability to stitch in either an open or closed channel as the original dictates.
Heel seats are nailed by hand not machine
Soles are retrimmed for smoothness.
Heel bases and toplifts are replaced and sanded three times for proper angles and a glasslike finish.
After edge finishing, soles are sanded twice before finishing.
Soles are hand waxed with a neutral wax– no artificial stains or colors are used. If appropriate, soles can also be finished in black or brown to match original factory color as in some Ferrogamos, Pradas, and the like.
Nicks and cuts are filled as best as possible after which we wax each and every pair by hand. All hardware such as bits, buckles, etc. are solvent cleaned to remove any polish.  Sock liners are then put back into the shoe or replaced with new ones if necessary.
