Sockliners

Toplifts
are removed. |

Heel bases
are removed with hand tools so as not to damage the shanks. All old
nails
are removed at this point. |

Out soles
are carefully removed from the upper. |

Old stitches
are completely removed from the insoles or welts. Welts, insoles, and
insole
ribbing are replaced if necessary. Old welt stitches are removed prior
to replacement. |

Upper is
roughened for proper adhesion. |

Filler
is replaced where applicable. |
 |
New soles
of the proper thickness are applied. |
 |
Soles are
channeled by machine for proper depth and edge adjustment and
then
restitched. White or dark stitches are used appropriately. |

Shanks are
pegged by hand using lemonwood pegs on boots such as Lucchese and other
handmades whose shanks were originally pegged. On others, shanks are
nailed
using only brass nails. |

Heel
seats are nailed by hand not machine using only brass nails |
 |
Soles are
retrimmed for smoothness. |
 |
Shanks are
hand rolled and sanded for proper shape |
 |
Heel bases
and toplifts are replaced and sanded three times for proper angles and
a glasslike finish. |

After edge
finishing, soles are sanded twice before finishing. |
 |
Soles are
hand waxed with a neutral wax – no artificial stains or colors are
used.
If appropriate, soles can also be finished in black or brown to match
original
factory color as in Lucchese boots and the like. |

Boots are
completely shined by hand and the sock liners are then put back into
the
shoe or replaced if necessary. |
